The Sissonville VFD saw 2008 as a very busy year responding to 559 calls for help not including the 1000 +/- First Responder Medical Calls we were dispatched for. This was 100 calls more than any year since 2004.
We responded to 40 Structure Fires (more than the past two years), 259 Auto Accidents (more than any year since 2002 when we started keeping track on this Website), 16 Vehicle Fires, 10 Rescues, 10 Brush Fires, 12 Fire Alarms, 40 Assistance Calls, 95 Investigations, 50 Other Fires (trash, etc.), 3 Searches for Missing Persons, and 9 Moveup or Standby calls for our Mutual Aid Departments.
In 2008, we received at least four grants:
- FIRE Act Grant for $33,491.00 for a new Air Compressor and Ladders.
- Polaris Ranger 6×6 from U.S. Smokeless Tobacco
- Troy-Bilt Snow Blower from WCHS-TV and WVAH-TV
- Good Neighbor Citizenship grant from State Farm Insurance for our annual Sissonville Fire & Rescue School.
